GOD’S COMFORT
Each of us will be confronted with despair in our lives. It may be financial, a health problem, loss of property, death of a loved one. These are times that our heart can fall into sadness and full of despair. When this happens, we may realize that in our own strength, we can not bear the sadness alone. Where do we look and who do we turn to for comfort? We may turn and look to friends, family or to God.
Recently I read a prayer (writer unknown) and could tell that this person knew where their refuge, strength and comfort came from. “Thank you, Jesus, that Your Spirit brings such comfort to my heart. When I am sad or frightened, remind me that all I need to do is open myself to you and your love will wrap around me like a warm, comforting blanket. Amen.”
As we turn to God’s Word and in prayer like the one that wrote this prayer, we also show that we know our refuge, strength and comfort comes from our Lord. When we look at Psalms 46:1… “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Now read what it says in 2 Corinthians 1:3&4… “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; He comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in trouble, but the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
As I close this page, know that God’s promises are true and that His unfailing presence and love is with us during our times of sadness.
